finetiming.app
A small suite of software for competitive rowing and kayaking. Video timing, event management, wireless start hardware — and nothing that requires a stable internet connection at the regatta.
Desktop finish line video timing. Records the race, lets you step frame by frame to mark each lane's crossing, and exports self-contained .flheat archives. No cloud required on-site.
Cloud event management — heat scheduling, participant rosters, results publishing. Reads .flheat archives from Fine Line. Now live at live.finetiming.app — early access, expect rough edges.
Wireless start hardware. Captures the start signal the instant the gate fires and sends it to Fine Line over the local network via Modbus TCP — with automatic RF propagation delay correction built in.
Fine Line for non-lane events. Same video-based finish timing, same frame-by-frame review, but designed for mass-start and marathon-format races where athletes aren't assigned lanes. Early concept.
Fine Timing is a set of tools built for use at actual rowing and kayaking competitions. The starting point was needing a finish line camera system that worked reliably offline, didn't depend on a subscription platform, and was fast enough to operate alone under race day pressure.
Fine Line came out of that. The rest grew from the same gap — clubs running heats from spreadsheets, results going up hours late.
